Some mages focus on one color, others focus on two or three colors at a time. There are some mages that have such powerful spells they want to use them all. These mages practice to perfect their skills allowing them to use all five known colors of mana. A mage based like this is typically called a Sunburst Mage. A sunburst mage, is very unpredictable in the heat of battle. Obviously they can use any spell at will which means predicting what they will do and make a strategy is almost impossible. Some like to focus on using either mainly or just artifacts in their spell selection to make it easier to use them. Others however, aren’t afraid to use any spell they want and destroy all who stand in their path. By now young planeswalker, you must be wondering what kind of spells they use. How in the world do they limit the selection of their spells?

Commander
1xChild of Alara
Bursting the Suns
This is a spell list that a powerful sunburst mage commands. He has his general run things for him, a being from the plane of Alara. Child of Alara takes command of this army to bring out death in various ways to his foes. It may start out slow but can quickly begin to spin into a giant snow ball. Before you know it the battle has an explosive combination going off turn after turn. Child of Alara can even make all spells artifacts and have no color identity. Ok so now you must be thinking well I’ll just blow up all artifacts that he controls then. Wrong thought young walker. Darksteel Forge makes all the artifacts he has in control indestructible so the worry of a massive bomb exploding his field is gone. Last but not least, when all else has failed, the mighty Furnace Dragon can take flight. Once Furnace Dragon has taken flight, he will exile all artifacts that are present on the battle field.
Eclipse?
So young walker how can we take this foe on? Well oddly enough, Sunburst Mages can beat themselves at times as well. Not being able to channel the correct mana when they need can lead to their doom. Some more common battle ideas can take this mage down without much effort. Mill, Burn, Aggro even creature based mages can take this mage down without much of a fight. But don’t think that all sunburst mages are just like this. May others have a wider range in their spells and can be either more aggressive or even controlling. How will you take on this mage? Will you have what it takes to concur the power of the combined suns?
